Johnson pens Pompey deal

Portsmouth defender Glen Johnson has ended the speculation surrounding his future by putting pen to paper on a new four-and-a-half year deal at Fratton Park.

The England right-back was linked with a £10million move to Liverpool earlier in the month, but will now be extending his two-and-a-half year association with the South Coast club.

Johnson has made 83 appearances for Pompey after originally arriving on loan from former club Chelsea in the summer of 2006.

The ex-West Ham United youngster joined Portsmouth on a full-time basis in August 2007, after failing to break into the first team at Stamford Bridge.

"It's great news that Glen's decided to sign a new contract," manager Tony Adams told the club's official website.

"I'm delighted to have him here - I want him here for a long time.

"This is a good place for him. He's got back in the England squad since he came here.

"Glen's applied himself really well. He's always desperate to play and gets frustrated when he can't.

"He's been very good for this club and this club's been very good for him."
